Professor Dr. Obayedullah- Ferdousi Foundation (POFF) was established in 2012 (Reg. no. Gop-766/12) with an aim to raise awareness against cancer, deliver services in the field of medical science. It works in the field of prevention, detection, treatment, palliative care, supportive care, research & training dedicated to combat cancer through it’s project Professor Dr. Obayedullah- Ferdousi Foundation Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (POFFCH & RI) though POFFCH & RI was established in 1993 in the name "Fatema Rahman Cancer Hospital and Research Institute". Then Fatema Rahman Cancer Hospital and Research Institute was reformed and renamed as " Professor Dr. Obayedullah- Ferdousi Foundation Cancer Hospital & Research Institute" in 2012.
It is situated at Paikkandi, under Sadar Upa Zilla, Gopalgonj District, 8 km east to the Gopalgonj Town, beside Dhaka Maowa Highway. Road communication is very well connected, so people can go there on foots, by vans,bycycles, rickshaws, auto rickshaws,motor cycles, cars, ambulances and even by buses.
It is a non political, noncommercial, goverment approved and assisted voluntary, social welfare health organization and the Honorable prime Minister of the Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh is the proposed Chief Patron of the Foundation.
Motivation and awareness of the peoples of Bangladesh about risk factors of cancers are the two pillars of our activities. By increasing the awareness changing the lifestyle like quit smoking and tobacco products, red meat, fatty foods,fast food, junk food, alcohol, not allowing girls to be married before 20 years old, intake of more fruits and vegetables, maintaining regular physical exercise and breast feeding etc we can prevent about 50-60% of cancer.
